ELENA ARINAGA
WRITER; UNITED STATES
Elena, age 25, is a graduate from a bachelor's in Literature and Linguistics (English/German) and a master's in Business Communications at the KU Leuven University in Belgium.
Writing has always been a passion for her and combining that with a deep love and appreciation for Mother Earth made writing for Earthians Care an ideal next project.
Growing up in Belgium, Elena’s mother taught her the importance of living in harmony with our environment. She quickly realized our home needs to be protected from the harm human beings inflict upon it.
Living in Hawaii now, this reality becomes so much more clear. She has been living there for a bit over three years now, and the connection some people there have with the land is one to be admired. She tries to embrace that connection herself as often as possible, whether it’s by hiking to see the native plants high up in the mountains, visiting a waterfall, volunteering in a native Hawaiian plant garden, or just simply going to the beach.
Fun fact! Elena and everyone in her family are all massive J.R.R. Tolkien fans. She’s probably watched the Lord of the Rings trilogy more than 100 times. She even wrote her bachelor’s paper on Tolkien.
PRESTON BRUNK
WRITER; UNITED STATES
Preston Brunk (he/him) is a junior at Chico State obtaining his major in Environmental Science with a focus on applied ecology. While going to school he is also an Agricultural and Natural Resource Intern at Sierra Nevada Brewing Company.
He was inspired to write for Earthians Care because of how important these are for our society, specifically in engaging our younger generations to take a stand on living a more sustainable lifestyle. Or simply just being aware of the way our society is greatly different than other, more sustainable countries. He recently began taking major specific courses that have influenced the way he perceives our society. He believes there is a lack of knowledge due to minimal informational sites. The info sites that are available do not attract the younger generations that need to be familiarized with current environmental issues whether its climate change, poverty issues, lack of resources like water and food, or the increasing rate of extinction of some key species that some ecosystems depend on to sustain themselves. During this hectic semester, he has been taking Environmental Sociology and Environmental Rhetoric which have really expanded his perspective on living more sustainably.
He has always been quite close with nature. He grew up hunting and fishing while going camping in between. He grew up on a ranch outside Oakdale, CA where he had three ponds that hosted migrating ducks and geese through the fall and winter and then provided habitat for local Mallard ducks and Canada geese to nest. The Grasslands near Los Banos is where he roamed for much of his childhood hunting ducks and geese. He fished for bass and kokanee in the foothill lakes of New Melones, Don Pedro, and Tulloch. The high mountains of the Sierra Nevada mountain range is where he would go camping with the family and backpacking with friends up to the high lakes that are stoked with German Brown Trout and native Rainbow Trout. These were really the first areas he started gaining a connection with the land that we occupy. After moving to Chico and obtaining his associates in Natural Resource Management, he learned how many different aspects of society affect the remaining natural ecosystems surrounding us and how easily they can be affected.
SPENCER
GUEST CONTRIBUTOR/FOUNDING MEMBER; UNITED STATES
Spencer, a Freshman at University of North Texas, is proud to volunteer his time to write and support Earthians Care. His appreciation for Earth is primarily derived from his childhood summers up at a summer camp in the Sonora foothills. It was there Spencer recall's, "I learned the world we live in is far more than just a neighborhood or a home town. Among all the minor and horrific tragedies of life (from stubbing your toe in your living room, to a suicide bombing half-way around the world) that can make us narcissistic and pessimistic, there is this functioning society that is not defined by political ideology, political party, religion, race, or language, but instead a society defined by our connection as people of Earth." If anything, Spencer hopes that when looking through the many articles on Earthians Care, the readers will realize, remember, or reinforce the belief that Earth is not a purgatory, but rather a playground to be explored and played on.
ABRAR HASANAT
WRITER; SOCIAL MEDIA TEAM; BANGLADESH
Abrar Hasanat (he/him) age 17 is in his junior year ACC college. He was inspired to write for Earthians Care because these sort of ventures are extremely important for our young youth based society in creating awareness amongst the future generation. It enables us to become sensible towards the growing environmental as well as social concerns of Earth and helps us tackle those problems. The mainstream media tends to get distracted from these sort of problems in order to cover hyped up or controversial contents. And thus, there is not a lot of informative sites that actually show us unbiased and scientific information of our planet Earth's condition. Hence, a lot of people stay in the dark regarding these and are unable to find the right information/motivation to help the planet. And that's what inspires him to write for the Earthians Care. He was born and raised in a megacity where nature is a luxury of sorts. Yet, he found himself quite attached to the natural side of the Earth whenever he went hiking or camping in his country. Be it the clean water streams or the fresh air or the immense diversity of animals and plants - everything attracted him. That's how he gradually felt a connection with planet Earth and researched on several issues regarding the eco-system, only to find horrifying facts about our dying land. After finding the facts and details of how damaged our home planet is at the moment, he tried to get involved with more and more nature based groups. He tried to discuss these issues with people who are actually experienced in these matters. Although he didn't have much experience with environmentalism due to the lack of opportunities, he'd like to gain more first hand experience in these matters. Apart from the nature based part, he also researched several papers on teenage psychology, mental health issues and such which he also believes would be a great addition to the Earthians Care organization. At last, he'd like to quote the famous saying "If we take care of Earth, then surely Earth will take care of us." He hopes that through the Earthians Care organization - people will be more informed and aware about several topics regarding our planet and understand that the Earth and nature will survive without humans, but we can't survive without them.
